I grew up in the town of Ladysmith, a very small town for a girl with a very BIG dream. When I was a little girl I always dreamed about how I was going to become a Fashion Designer. My parents loved whenever I sketched out a new design and tried to figure out how to make it. I volunteered at the Chemainus Festival Theater for 3 years in the costume department for the experience of working in and with fashion, and took all the necessary actions to ensure that I got into the Fashion Design program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, but when I was 16 years old I turned away from the dream and started my life as a cook.
I completed the culinary program with a gold medal in a competition, and awards for best portfolio and most achieved. In 2009 I got a job as a cook downtown Vancouver. For one year I worked very hard, trying desperately to keep up with all the males I worked with.
After 5 long years working in hot and busy kitchens it was time to get back into the dream, just not as a designer but more in the marketing side. I upgraded high school courses and took one year of business at Vancouver Island University.
In 2013 my dream of attending fashion school came true. I attended John Casablancas Institute of fashion for the intensive one-year fashion business diploma program. I was excited that it wasn’t all about design and more on the business side of fashion, but when I took a fashion history class as well as did some designs for another class project I couldn’t help but fall in love with designing again, and marketing wasn’t an option anymore.
I decided to take a more adventuroust career and become a costume designer for the film and TV industry, I love the idea of working on sets where the story is taking place in the past, present or even the future. I believe my talents will thrive in this fast pace and creative environment.
